This is…or was an official protected cultural heritage site, now it is just the next neighborhood in Chongqing to end up in the way of yet another apartment complex. The man walking through the rubble is surveying the demolition while balancing himself on one of the ancient stone tablets, one of seven that have been severely damaged over the years and even more so recently by debris.

It is infuriating to see how little regard the Chinese have for their own history and culture unless they are trying to use it to make money or win an argument. Even more unfortunate are the apartments that will be built here without a doubt will be like the others in this city that have sprung up over the last 5 years. Low quality, soulless, and within 2 years of being built totally neglected and smelling of urine around the walls.

Important issue in China...Their government is very corrupt and it seems all they want to do is become the next big controlling financial power or something...

in all reality this happens just about everywhere, not just China but it is especially transparent here as it is happening on such a grand scale.

For me it's really sad to see, how progress is going. I wonder what kind of tomorrow will be in China?

Ugh, these things happening in China...it just goes to show what's wrong in it; it saddens me. Has no one protested against demolishing the site?

very sad.... the same things are happening in Russia... when it's up to money, no one cares about the cultural heritage :(

its had happened everywhere, process of change.
i wish people would stop saying negative things about China when most of the negativities also happens everywhere in the world, just perhaps not on the large scale or wasn't given much focus due to whatever reasons.

Wherever this happens - and to a greater or lesser extent it happens everywhere - it is a tragedy. Future generations - when they turn around and realise they have been cut off from their own past, their own culture and their own history by demolitions and soulless constructions such as these....future generatons will curse them for it. But in the short term they will, of course, get away with it. It has been happening - to both a greater and a lesser extent - everywhere.

If everyone ignores the negative things that happen, what good does it do to anyone? What's important is that people don't criticize one culture and then defend their own when their people do the same thing. China is destroying certain parts of their culture and they'll regret it someday, just like most other countries.
