This little girl is playing with maize, but she is so embarrassed to have her photo taken that she dares not look at me, always shying away when she notices me still sitting there, but later her father takes her into their house and she comes back out with a white hat on to pose for my camera.

thank you so much for doing what you do ---- documenting china so closely, giving images and stories, your impressions. it's incredible how viewing a string of your images like this, combined with the words, gives an uncanny sense of being there. a sheer, underrated talent in a swirl of more slap-your-face imagery. you slap the face as well but with a gentle appeal to awaken, to lead the stunned viewer by the hand, further into the world you unlock.
