It never ceases to amaze me how in China the difference between the city people and the farm people is as night and day yet they are similar then most would notice. The people in the cities live a faster paced life style, rushing here and there and always on their phones. The people in the country side live slow lives, when the suns out there is no reason to go outside and roast, its ok to wait for everything. But when it comes to girls and hair…I guess some things are always the same.

She had to sit there and comb her hair, with a penetrating look on her face, even as these weird foreigners walked up to her house and snapped photos. She worked on her hair until it was perfectly straight without a strand out of place and never changed the look on her face one bit and always kept her round bright eyes on me as I took her photo.

In a way I feel sorry for her though. Her hometown has a major roadway being built to it and many new tourist “attractions” going up. Soon her modest home and simple look may be replaced by attraction door tickets and pressure to go milk passers by for money.

But heres to hoping that the innocence we see in this girls face, her old style Chinese girls clothing, and her surroundings will be preserved beyond our generations and that the lure of the loud city life will not pull too many people away from a traditional lifestyle.

Yashica GSN, 45mm f1.7 Yashinon lens, Ilford XP2 shot at 320.

oh wow, great capture. The back ground story of it all, makes it even more amazing. It does make a person wish that things would stay traditional, and not change. Tourists can be a real nucince, which is why I choose not to be one. Meh, people should sometimes just not mess with what is there, learn how to keep what is innocent, clean and pure as it once was. and also stay out of other peoples buisness. Just speeking opinion...

For such an intimate story, I was hoping for more of a directly intimate photograph. The elements vital to figuring out she is combing or brushing her hair are absent, seeing as the brush is apparently cut off in the right hand. Without the writing to work as a companion to the image, this would not hold very well. Did you take any other shots?

Very nice composition! Love the image and the DOF. Great work as usual!

yeah, I know what you mean but the point of the photo wasnt to show her brushing her hair, it was a play on social comentary to show the innocence of the girl and make a few points on the side. Yes there are many more photos and I will be posting some asap
:iconjessicaleza:
hopefully it will not become another fenghuang.
