The Working Farmer

Up in the mountains where water is hard to get to the farms, people carry it on large wooden containers on their back. Some of them go back and forth for miles all day long bringing water from a spring or river just to keep those crops of theirs growing. Its no easy task either, the containers themselves are heavy but when filled with several dozen liters of water its pretty amazing that these farmers can haul them around for so long.

I followed this old man for about half an hour from the river to the fields high in the mountain. When he got to the fields he emptied the water into a large cement hole and another farmer took the container back down to the river. When the other guy left the first guy took a small porcelain jug and proceeded to water the fields.

I took this photo up in a little village on the side of a mountain in western China. The sun was pretty heavy but it was pretty windy and a little bit cold so the natives all dressed in clothes that protected them from the wind and sun.

Canon 30V, 28-135mm IS lens, Fuji 100, didn’t transfer over to digital too well for some reason so I changed it to black and white.
