Artist's Comments

In Western China there is a lot of tradition as heavy industry has no yet pierced the soul of the country side. One of the traditional things that has lasted through all this time is the robust clothing. Mother or grandma still making them by hand (more or this with a coming photo) with bold colors and intricate needle work.

One thing you may notice is the edges are embroidered with colors and patterns, this is done by hand using a needle and hand dyed string. It takes several months to make clothes like this and it is very costly for outsiders to buy.

Sometimes you will find people that will use manufactured cloth to make clothes and quilts, but it can be expensive for the natives to trade for or buy.
