I'm glad the majority of the Chinese population is smart enough not to swallow that tripe. God, this sounds just like colonialism and the Jesuits.

as a child i hated america because it's where-i-was-taken-after-i-was-taken-from-my-home (the philippines). had they taken me to greece, i would've hated greece. taken to brazil = hate brazil. i was actually born in america to american parents but this fact meant zilch to me.

i've come to grow fond of america in many ways but sometimes i feel disgust and that old disconnection. for this reason, when my mother and i discuss the state of the world and nod in agreement in our belief that america is a sinking ship and that china will likely be the next world power (economy-wise if nothing else), i feel both neutral and fearful. neutral because i love the chinese as i love the americans (as i love the greek, as i love the brazilians...), fearful because i'm on the sinking ship.

that article (like so much else) just adds to that feeling that there aren't enough lifeboats yet i can already see those policy-preaching bozos, with their cardboard jesus and MLK cut-outs, have already taken their seats.

bleh.

The simple fact is that the West is scared about the emergence of China. the fact it was closed to the world for so many years let USA and Europe in a position they believed of strenght but with the opening of capitalism in China and the cheap hand labour, your country and India are heading to dominate world trade. The preachers were sent to try undermine that and hopefully help keep America with the same economical power they had. I see in the future a shift of power from the west to the east. The shear numbers you have gives China and advantage unparalled in the West. You can think their pathetic but above all they are scared!

I have no patience with the American right - and I'm from England anyways. But it doesn't mean I have any patience with the Chinese government, whose own shortcomings are well documented and far more greivous in the last 50 years than the US's. Regime change would be a fool's errand of course - should the government of China fall the anarchy that would ensue would be ridiculous, but it does need to change, a lot, and faster than it will find comfortable to do so.

even if the US may be preaching the wrong gospel doesn't mean that china doesn't need a regime change.
That someone else may be wrong doesn't make the first wrong right.

I'd have to agree about our (USA) government , they sure do suck (especially Bush and buddies), but what our government does/thinks has little to do with the people; don't rag on me because something "my" government does. Most American people don't support what has been going on the last few years; don't forget it's the government not the people. In my travels over the years I have leaned that most people around the world are equally bright, loving, caring and so forth, that includes us Americans; just not Texans ;)

aya, this makes me sad...

"don't rag on me because something "my" government does. Most American people don't support what has been going on the last few years; don't forget it's the government not the people."

I feel that we as Americans are missing the punchline here. Don't rag on you? Why not? It's supposed to be *your* government... we're supposed to change things if we don't like it.
But do we? no. Somewhere the realization that we're all just cogs in a machine turned into acceptance. That's the problem. Being passive and passing the buck isn't helping us. Too bad nothing else seems to work either...

Remember: voting is sexy.

OR...
Revolution, anybody?
