Well here we are again, chinese new years. 5 weeks off. It is pretty hard to travel around this time of year here, one friend sat out at the train station for 2 days in line just to get a ticket to the next town. Yikes. Anyho, heading the the gf's house tomorrow so gona be gone for a few days. It seems they dont have internet over there so ill be out for a while. On the plus side to chinese new years though, this is a time for parents to give money to their kids (hint hint old man). Wangyi (the gf) is getting about 20,000 rmb so we are going camera shoping. She has her eye on an Panasonic FX9, looks like a good camera, I got my eye on that LX1, also looks like a good camera. She is also looking for one of those new canon 24-105 IS L lenses but I guess they havnt arrived here in chinaville yet or something. While she was window camera shopping I spoted a canon 5D, I went in and tried it out, its a little more hefty then my 20D, havnt decided if this is a good thing or not, but I do like the resolution, but most of all, the full frame sensor since I like to shot a lot of wide stuff....yummy. I have been in the market for a Leica M7 Chrome with a 35mm Summicron Chome but looking at that thing has made me rethink my idea on the Leica. As much as i like the film and all but I just got rid of my mamiya 6, something about it didnt fit with me. Plus I got that scholarship, and sell my 20D, can get the 5D and maybe even a 35 1.4 to stick in front of it.....oh deary me im so tempted. Frankly I think me using film has become more of a novelty rather then a serious thing, digital might just be more logical step....

sigh....

I do have to say that after using a digital for a semester of class, I definately like film better even though now digital is more convenient... I think that there's something so much more satisfying about film and the snap and roll of the film rolling through the camera after you take a picture. ^_^ That and the anticipation of getting a fresh roll back.

Or maybe I'm just a huge geek. ; P

believe me I know the feeling but the first problem here is that there is no place good to develope film so everytime I send it out its like fliping a coin, either it comes out nice looking or it doesnt. Most places here are so cheap that they dont even bother to change their chemicals in the machienes. Yeah, there is no quality control at all so at least with the digital I can control what the final product will look like to a finer degree.

Ouch, yeah that would definately affect my decision!

I was nervous about sending my film out for a while because they lost an important roll of mine once but the one hour processing never turns out quite right. The photos almost always have something wrong with them! I wish I knew how to develop film myself. And that I had a place to develop it. ; P

yeah, there is no one hour printing around here it seems, everything takes a few days, developing slides take more then a week. I develope my own bw film but the water is so dirty here that it leave spots on the film. Icky.

Yeah, I don't think that the one hour people change the chemicals very often because I've gotten my photos back a couple of times and they had funny marks on them in random places. Now I don't get one hour unless I need them back quick.

I wish I could learn how to develop my own photos, that'd be so cool!

Mebbee I'm a geek, too! LOL I like the snap and roll of the film, too! When I use a digital camera, I'm not even sure I have gotten a picture, in spite of the noises the camera makes. And the quality of any digital camera I can afford doesn't begin to measure up to film.
