Worthless!!! I hate this new totally useless movie with a passion. I have never seen so many Hollywood coincidences in one movie. Like how whenever people are asleep everything is nice and calm, then the moment they wake up big swarms of things attack them. Or how as Kong is chasing down that guy in the car and he wrecks it that lady shows up. Nasty horrible pitifully shameful crap. I love how the lady keeps falling down hills and getting dragged around without getting dirty and slowly looses more and more of her clothes. And how about when Kong snaps her off that bridge/alter thing? The ropes manage to keep her hanging there by her wrists, but when Kong snaps her off she is totally fine, no torn off anything. Or all the whiplash she should have ended up with after being bounced around in Kong's hands. Ok enough of this stuff, it's a total waste of time and the only entertainment value is laughing at the fact that so much money was wasted making it, oh and the lousy acting is worth a tickle or two (Jack Black standing there in the theater with that stupid look on his face after Kong escapes).

This movie stands SECOND in my list of films that I think are so worthless it I feel pity for the people's names who are attached to them. The first being Dungeons and Dragons.

Even after that it must be said I might be a little spoiled because I am in an art school and we are taught to look at things with a more "refined" eye. Movies like Swallowtail Butterfly, Kagemusha, Undo, Gummo, Basic Interests, and Par-Dela Les Nuages grace my movie collection. The kind of stuff that ususaly says Cannes rather then Newsweek on the front.

Well...I was disappointed with King Kong because I'm a fan of Peter Jackson, especially LOTR, but I don't think it was entirely a bad film. For me, it was a good film with some great sequences but let down by some bad flaws. I don't think it was the overuse of effects that was a flaw (cinema is after all a visual medium, and spectacle is part of the experience) but that it was too inconsistent (like where did all the tribespeople disappear to?), and occasionally it stretched suspension of disbelief too far.

Still, Jackson's passion for the project shows through in the film...you can see he was having so much fun making this film and he wants the audience to share in this fun, he's genuinely trying to make something because it's his dream film and he's giving it everything, throwing everything in...which is why for me despite its serious flaws (which I cannot deny) it still stands above the majority of Hollywood blockbusters.

Incidentally, you mention Swallowtail Butterfly...where did you find it? I watched All About Lily Chou Chou (also by Shunji Iwai) a while ago and I loved it...it blows King Kong away :XD:...but I cannot find Swallowtail Butterfly anywhere.

I don't hate the new king kong, it's just a Hollywood popcorn movie. At trying to be anything more it failed.

This confirms my doubt about this remake. Haven't seen it and am not interested to watch it either. I've seen before the other king kong movies but thinks the one starring Jessica Lange is the best of the lot. Once my daughter made a comment... "what's next, Godzilla???". Hmmm....

now thank you!

man, everybody's whining about what a great movie it is. Well, it BLEW. I sat there with my brother for almost three hours, and the only emotion i got, was a good laughter...

KingKong meets Jurasic park, featuring The Bugs.

[furthermore: okay, the special effects were okay i guess, haha...]

I haven't seen it yet. Probably because I know I'd end up disappointed. Most Hollywood films are chewing gum for the brain anyway. Was Lost In Translation a Hollywood flick? Not that it matters really, Sophia Coppola is a subtle and wonderful genius.

And Kagemusha is a true masterpiece.

im glad i wasnt the only one who felt this way. i was in PAIN by the time that movie was over (back) and i should have known better hehe... Jackson's films are technically beautiful (and it WAS beautiful) but his imagination is so huge that he needs to rely on those graphics to get whats in his head out on the screen. It worked in LotR, possibly because it was a fantasy movie.

Anyways, i really hated this movie. I shudder to think of the directors cut!

yeah see thats what I was thinking about the other day, LOTR was a great serise of movies because it was bold, epic, and fresh. But there are so many parts of LOTR that tried to eek its way into King Kong that it felt kinda the same and there is only so much of LOTR I can take in one sitting.

i think you're missing the point here. the movie, is about a HUGE APE. the size of BUILDINGSs. if you can buy nito *that* insanity, then you shouldnt nit pick about *other* unbelievable facts. remember, this isnt a documentary based on scientific fact ;p While i think that 90% ofpopular movies are pure unadulterated belowaverage CRUD, i dont think king kong was half as bad as you made it out to be. it was non-cerebral fun...without being totallytotally dumb. i felt it was more in the genre of the old indiana jones movies.

newhu, av a god day:)

I think there where a lot of error in the film but i loved the emotion in it. I mean the T-Rex chasing her when he had a meal in his mouth was stupid. Like why would he waste his time trying to get that skinny thing to eat when he had something juicy in mouth already. Much more errors but I still loved the emotion in the film.

I think you missed so much of the point of the film that your criticism, while essentially correct, falls in to the realms of pedantic weirdness.
