Deviant art has been a nice place to stick up photos and get comments from people from around the world. No doubt about that here. For a few years I paid the subscription fee and even bought into the prints program despite later it being offered for free to everyone (which really ticked me off since I paid money for it).
Then I stopped paying money to Deviant Art and started giving it to Flickr instead. Why? Quite easy really, because of these messages I get from time to time:
"An administrator has relocated one of your deviations from Photography > Animals, Plants & Nature > Miscellaneous to Photography > Animals, Plants & Nature > Flowers & Plants.
FAQ: Why was my deviation moved? Moved Deviation: Mist
Replies to this automated note will be lost; please use the help desk if you have any questions.
Thank you."
The fact that you cant move it back is even more annoying. Sure admin's move things around according to how they want to and maybe some need it, but that shot is NOT of flowers and plants, its of mist coming through trees, hence the name. I stick things where I feel they are appropriate according to my own judgment about what I was photographing and wanted to show, I think my record should stand for itself that I might have a slight idea that I know what I am doing. Yet the admins feel they can move things around in my gallery at will, and that is why Deviant Art will never see another dollar of mine.
Now that I have said that, ne ot other things. The plaster form of the frogman sculpture is now done and at the bronze foundry being cut up into pieces for casting. I sit in great anticipation to see the final product of Ola Enstad and my labor over the last and and half months. By the way, if you happen to be in Norway and see a stamp of the flying frogmen, thats Ola's work as well.
Is that one thing the issue you have with DA? I thought it was going to be something about their privacy policy or updated terms.. but directors moving your deviations? I mean, I'm sure it's irritating, but seems like a rather minor thing to get worked up over.
What they did with the prints program was frustrating though. I mean, they do have a decent method of quality control, but to offer prints ("basic" or not) to ALL is crazy to me. I would be worried they would spread their resources too thin and overall quality would go down. Only reason I continue to use it is because I have a lifetime prints sub since I was apart of it before the change.
You can only send in a Help Desk ticket and it can be escalated to a gallery director who can explain why it was moved and you can explain why you feel it is best suited for the category it was in. More than likely an agreement can be made
Well you know, I understand your irritation, I had similar issue... Still maybe you should have talked to the admin and explain your point of view? In the end they are humans and make mistakes too. Luckily admins on websites don't call themselves 'gods' as it is in mud games. It's funny how calling yourself a god can turn you into a psycho...

Hope to continue to view your works.
